SILVER Peace Challenge

EARNS YOU THE SILVER PEACE BADGE.
There are so many ways to talk about peace - peace in the world, peace among Jews, peace within our families, peace within ourselves, and more.  This traditional version of this blessing, Shalom Rav, focuses on peace among Jews, and for Jews, though there are other versions that pray for peace for everyone around the world.  The SILVER Peace Challenge will allow you to focus on both!

YOUR TASK:  Create a collage that represents Shalom Rav.

STEP ONE:  Read through these two translations of Shalom Rav so you have an idea of the thoughts behind the blessing.  Know that in this blessing, the word "Israel," really means "the Jewish people, wherever they live."

A MORE TRADITIONAL TRANSLATION:
Grant much peace to Your people Israel forever,
for You are the supreme God of all peace.

May You be pleased to bless Your people Israel with Your peace,     in every season and moment.

We praise You, Adonai,

who blesses Your people Israel with peace.

A TRANSLATION THAT TALKS OF ALL PEOPLE:
Grant much peace to Your people Israel and all the world forever,
for You are the supreme God of all peace.

May You be pleased to bless Your people Israel and people everywhere with Your peace, in every season and moment.

We praise You, Adonai,

who blesses Your people Israel, and all the people of the world,
with peace.
STEP TWO:  Think about the meaning behind the words of the blessing.  You may choose to use either version, above, as the basis of your collage.  Find at least 7 images (pictures) that match your understanding of this blessing.  You may find these either online (images.google.com or another source), in magazines, or you may take them yourself with a camera.  You could also draw all or some of them, if you wish.

Create a collage that includes your images, along with Shalom Rav in Hebrew.  <<Click here to download the Hebrew to print-out.
  • Note that we gave you words with different sizes and colors.
  • Choose the page(s) you want to print - you have to use the words at least once, but you could use them more than once if you wish.

STEP THREE:  Take a photo of your collage and send it to ImGonnaStandUp@jecc.org.  [Subject line:  Silver Peace].
